Drugging Your Kids

Would you purposely hurt your own kids? Why then would you drug them with some dangerous, unknown chemical that may hurt them for the rest of their lives? This is what these "ADHD" and "depression" drugs are. They are unknown, and unnecessary. Kids are kids, and will act as such. Human children have been doing this since the dawn of time. As you mature, your brain grows and adapts, and you develop into an adult. If you give your kids drugs during their formative years, there's no doubt that you're adding or subtracting something from the equation, something that is going to alter their brain development. (And I don't mean JUST physical, youthful maturation. Our brains are constantly adapting and evolving, even as adults.) There may be short term apparent benefits to the drugs (i.e. over the course of years) but in the long term (over the course of decades) you have NO IDEA what those drugs are going to do to your kid. At a bare minimum, it's safe to say that your kid isn't going to learn how to overcome their own synaptic impulses because the drug will be doing it for them. Then, if it is removed, they will be overwhelmed with impulses that they can't cope with (i.e. people committing suicide after stopping certain drugs) OR they will be addicted forever to something that they shouldn't have been introduced to in the first place. PLEASE, if you're a parent considering drugging your kids, or even an individual looking at the choice for yourself, PLEASE think again. As they say, if it doesn't kill you, it makes you stronger. DEAL with it, don't cave in to big pharma.

Murder or Choice on a Whim

This is amazing. There's a news story lately about a woman who killed another woman and her unborn baby. She shot the woman in the stomach to kill the baby, and then she killed the woman. The killer is charged with murder, as well as "homicide of a fetus". HOW CRAZY IS THAT?? If you shoot someone's unborn baby, it's murder, but if you choose to kill your own unborn baby, it's a "choice". This is absolutely amazing to me, and it must be the first time in history where the decision over whether an action is considered murder or not is based solely on the opinion of the person committing the murder.

Elections Have Consequences

Once again, we see here in Illinois that elections have consequences. For those who thought that electing Pat Quinn as governor was an innocuous enough thing to do, Mr. Quinn is going to be abolishing the death penalty in this state today. He's not signing a law to make it tougher to apply, he's not signing a law that raises the standards to apply it, he's BANNING it. As usual, another democrat recklessly banning something that is useful and necessary in some cases. It's a horrible thing to have to apply, but I contend that murderers ought to think about the horrible consequences of their action BEFORE they murder, and should not get away with murder by receiving lifetime room and board at taxpayer expense. So let's recap: Illinois raises taxes 66% on those who actually work, spends it on those who are too lazy to work or those who murder others, allows for the killing-on-demand of unborn babies, and ensures that those who commit murder need not fear capital punishment. What a great state we have.

Why _I_ Don't Use Facebook

Lots of people have given lots of reasons why they don't use Facebook. Here's why I don't use Facebook:

I like my privacy and anonymity. People don't need to know what I'm up to every minute of the day. In fact, I really don't want anyone knowing anything about what I'm doing. Status updates are baffling to me. Do people actually even CARE what someone else is doing or feeling at any particular moment in time? And if they DO care, why would YOU care to let them know this? It's all pretty creepy to me.

I am not into casual friendships. I have a relatively limited circle of people I am very close with. Beyond this circle, I suppose I'm pleased to make your acquaintance, but we are not going to be pals. There is a growing group of people from my past who I have fallen out of touch with. We haven't fallen out of touch due to laziness, it's more diabolical than that. I don't WANT to stay in touch with every single person I've ever called a friend. The fact is, we just weren't that good of friends to begin with.

I don't have time. Typing this list is already eating into time that could better be spent doing something else. Why would I spend any more time updating perfect strangers on how I'm feeling at the moment, communicating with people I used to sit next to at work, or looking at pictures of people I haven't seen in-person in years?

Finally, I just don't like people that much. My close friends and relatives are precious to me. These people are about the only thing that makes life worth living. Beyond this, and for what it's worth, if you aren't one of those people, I wish you good luck, and I hope you're having a good life, but that's where it ends.

Think of me as the person you're searching for on Facebook, but can't find. I'm the old friend who never returns phone calls. I'm the former co-worker who you used to go to lunch with every day. We used to spend a lot of time together. Then things changed. Now, your life is an open book for all to read, and you wonder what I'm up to. I'll tell you. I just did my dishes, I'm drinking a cup of coffee, I just wasted ten minutes typing this list, and I'm wondering when I'll be able to start the garden this year. It's been nice knowing you. Goodbye.

GAO Report

Finding outright waste and limiting cuts only to that is foolish. Too much money is being spent on too many things that aren't necessary. Eliminate the duplicate spending, and continue to look for other areas to cut deeply. Democrats always use code words like "the most vulnerable members of our society" to set up the argument that every last dollar that goes to low-income or underprivileged people is an intelligent way to apportion the money. If there are truly humanitarian concerns, that's great, but let's cut out all the comfort and convenience things for people who are too lazy to go out and work for themselves. The American Dream isn't some freebie that's handed out, or some recklessly invented "right", the American Dream is the ABILITY to go out and work hard for the things you want for yourself and your family, and the implied potential for failure if you aren't willing to work for it.
